| CII in conjunction with Panjab University has initiated Action program for the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes |

| The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is a premier body working for the growth of industry and the development of society. CII in conjunction with Panjab University has initiated its affirmative action program for the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes through concrete steps at all levels of employment, including self-employment. With this programme, Panjab University and CII wish to aid the socially underprivileged sections of the society by giving them adequate representation in the development process of our nation. They seek to recognize and acknowledge deserving SC/ST students studying in various prestigious courses all over India or those interested in appearing for entrance exams for various professional and technical courses and providing coaching for the same. The scope of the aid shall also be extended to those interested in studying abroad. In order to identify the deserving SC/ST students who will be supported by CII in this endeavour, a proper selection-mechanism is to be instituted by partnering with a body with the requisite expertise. Panjab University with its impeccable credentials in the field of academics and its pioneering efforts in social progress for the past 125 years – was the natural choice. Mr. Sujith Haridas, Regional Direction CII and Ms Madhu have held discussions with, Prof. R.C. Sobti, Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University, to formalize this partnership. Prof. Sobti has shown full confidence in the programme and has promised all possible support of this magnanimous project being planned by CII. A Memorandum of Understanding in this connection is to be signed shortly. This effort by Panjab University and CII holds considerable promise for the students, their future and the society as a whole according to official sources. |
